How to Upload Documents into Cascade

What's New in Ocho

Section
Column

PRIOR TO STARTING:

Log into Cascade.

Select your site.

Download documents to your Windows computer or download documents to your Mac.

Default Placement Folder

For uploading document or images, Cascade will automatically select the correct placement folder based on your profile.

However, when creating new assets such as folders or pages, it will default to the last selected folder. If the last selected asset wasn't a folder, then it will default to the last selected asset's parent folder.

This process outlines how to manually specific the placement folder when creating, uploading, or linking.

Visual Theme

Cascade's look and feel has been updated. Most UI elements have had some cosmetic alteration, but most remain largely in the same general location.

Even elements like the Text Module have been updated, though it retains almost the exact same functionality.

Folder Selection Arrow

In the last version, clicking a folder asset in the Explorer would select it and make it display in the Workspace.

In the new version, clicking a folder asset only expands it to view its contents.

To select the folder itself, click the Folder Select Arrow.

STEP 2: Recent Tab

By default, the Choose a Folder Window displays with the Recent Tab selected.

If the desired placement folder is displayed here, select it and skip to step 7.

STEP 3: Browse Tab

If the desired placement folder isn't displayed under the Recent Tab, click the Browse Tab.

Result: The Choose a Folder Window now displays the Explorer.

STEP 4: Changing Sites

Navigate your computer's file navigator and select the document to upload. Depending on your computer's operating system, your file navigator may look very different.

Result: Your new-document asset page will have automatically changed the File Name to match the attached file. The bottom of the page will now display the source file name and size of the file.

The process for locating where to place a new asset, or how to make an internal link in Cascade has changed.

Instead of the double lightboxes, Ocho now uses the Slider Pane to display the Choose a File, Page, or Link Window, or the Choose a Folder Window (both of which work identically).

See How to Select a Placement Folder for more information on this process.

Shortcut Menu

Previously, the Shortcut Menu offered a very limited number of options.

Ocho offers many more options under the Shortcut Menu. Once an asset populates the Workspace, the More button in the Action Bar offers many of the same options with a few additions.

STEP 5: Explorer Window in the Slider Pane

Change the Cascade File Name to name the new asset correctly. Make sure to follow the correct Naming Conventions. No capital letters, hyphens instead of spaces (NOT underscores), no special characters (e.g. apostrophes, ampersands, accent marks, etc.), and the only punctuation should be the period for the file suffix.

After the previous step of attaching the document, the File Name will have appended the correct file suffix (e.g. .txt, .pdf, xlsx, etc.). Do NOT remove the file suffix. Cascade needs to know what type of file is being uploaded. When changing the File Name, make sure to retain the correct file suffix.

Changing the Cascade File Name will NOT affect the file on your computer.

STEP 6: Select the Correct Placement Folder

For most users, the correct location should be selected by default. However, it is best practices to confirm exactly where the new asset will be created.

Click the Placement Folder button and use the Slider Pane to select the folder to place the new asset.

Result: The selected file path will display under the Placement Folder.

STEP 7: Previous Selection

Titles can use normal English wording and capitalization. Give your new asset a title. It can match the File Name but with spaces, capitals, etc.

Example:

FILE NAME: fall-schedule.docx

TITLE: Fall Schedule

STEP 8: New Selection

For uploaded documents, the default for Display in Navigation should be set to Yes
