Accessing the Law Homepage in Cascade

For instructions on how to use Cascade, visit sandiego.edu/cascade.

To reach the law home page in Cascade, go to http://cms.sandiego.edu, use your USDOne login name and password to log in, and then navigate to the law site in the site selector.

Once there, click on the index page at the very bottom of the File Explorer.



Editing the Home Page

Once selected, click the Edit button to begin editing the page.



Sections

The Law homepage is divided into five sections:

  • Hero Banner
  • Personas
  • Why USD School of Law
  • Messaging
  • Explore SD

Most of these five sections are further sub-divided into other sections.





Hero Banner

The hero banner is the top image on the Law website.

Use the image selection button to navigate to an image and select it to change the hero banner.



Personas

The personas section is divided into three sub-sections:

  • Feature
  • Main Links
  • Quick Links



Feature

The feature sub-section is the left half of the page when the page is being viewed on a desktop.

The sub-section is comprised of the feature and three feature buttons.

The screenshot to the right shows one of the feature button areas expanded.

The text, the image, the link text for the buttons, and all of the links for the buttons can be modified here, exactly as they would be in a normal Cascade text module and image module.

The feature contains the following fields:

Each feature button contains the following fields:

  • Text: The link text displayed on the button.
  • URL: The link to which the button leads.




The main links sub-section contains two links and the cooresponding images for them that appear on the right of the persona section.

It contains the following fields:



The quick links are the four buttons on the bottom left of the personas section.

Why USD School of Law

The Why USD School of Law section is comprised of 5 accordions. The first one is always expanded by default.

Each accordion has three linksmodules. Each link corresponds with an image.

Accordion Fields
  • Title: The header at the top of the accordion.
  • Text: The paragraph text under the header.
Link Fields
  • Text: The text which appears on the image banner at the bottom of the image.
  • Image: The image. Text below the image button mentions the imageThe image's dimensions must be 640x360 pixels.
  • Image Description (alt): Used for screen readers. Follow the directions for creating accessible image descriptions.
  • URL: The link to which the button leads.
  • External URL: The link to which the button leads. Use a copy and paste from the address bar of a browser that has connected to the page.




Messaging

The messaging section contains three items. Each item can be set to one of three item types.

  • General: Used for general information. In the screenshot to the right, it is the left-most image.
  • Spotlight: Used for student spotlights. In the screenshot to the right, it is the middle image.
  • Weather: Used to display the weather. In the screenshot to the right, it is the right-most image.


General

The general item type contains the following fields:

  • Bold Number: The large number at the top of the image.
  • Bold Number Special Character: The percentage sign in the screenshot above. The pound sign is also available.
  • Text: The text under the large number.
  • Button Text: Text inside of the button.
  • URL: The link to which the button leads.
  • External URL: The link to which the button leads. Use a copy and paste from the address bar of a browser that has connected to the page.
  • Background Image: The background image. The necessary dimensions are given above of the image button for are 960x460 pixels.


Spotlight

There can be a maximum of five spotlights.

The spotlight item type contains the following fields:

  • Name and Class: The large number at the top of the image.
  • Picture: The photo for the student. Text above the image button describes the necessary The dimensions for the photo as are 100x100 pixels.
  • Quote: A quote from the student. A tip mentions Do not to include quotation marks.
  • Button Text: Text inside of the button.
  • URL: The link to which the button leads.
  • External URL: The link to which the button leads. Use a copy and paste from the address bar of a browser that has connected to the page.
  • Background Image: The background image. The necessary dimensions are given above for the image button for are 960x460 pixels.


Weather

The general item type contains the following fields:

  • Text: The text under the large number.
  • Button Text: Text inside of the button.
  • URL: The link to which the button leads.
  • External URL: The link to which the button leads. Use a copy and paste from the address bar of a browser that has connected to the page.
  • Background Image: The background image. The necessary dimensions are given above for the image button for are 960x460 pixels.

Editing an Entry

Click the small notepad and pencil icon to the right of the corresponding entry to begin editing it.

Form Fields

Name: Name of the resource.

Vendor: Publisher name.

URL (include the http:// in your URL): Link to the resource.

Access: Stipulates the user's access level required to view the material.

  • USD Only - Must have a USDOne login name and password.
  • LRC Login - Must have a specific LRC login granted only to School of Law faculty, staff, and students.
  • Registration Required - An extra step which requires users to be registered before viewing the material.
  • Open Access - Available to everyone.

Categories: A way for users to see a menu of different listings which all share a common subject matter.

  • Tax Law
  • Foreign and International Law
  • California Law
  • Federal Law
  • Historical Law
  • News/Reports/Reviews/Legal Commentary

Description: The description of the resource.

Dates covered: If the resources has a volume number based on dates.

Format: How the resource is stored.

  • Full text - If it's a full paleobook.
  • Partial full text - If it's only an article from a paleobook.
  • Citation only - If it's only a snippet of a paleobook.
  • E-books - A digital entry so that you can save it in the cloud so it's never lost, can easily do a Control + F or a Command + F to find words, quotes, or sections, which also makes it super easy to travel or move since any small smartphone can access it, and you can store notes which can also be searched without having to make a whole bunch of terrible highlighter marks all over the thing that then comes off on your fingers and ruins your manicure game.
  • Audio - If you wanna get lazy about it.

Explore SD

The Explore SD section adds points of interest to the map.

A maximum number of 8 locations are allowed.

To add or update locations, submit a request at http://www.sandiego.edu/web-requests/ with the following information:

  • Name: The name that shows in the menu.
  • Image: The image that appears over the point of interest on the map. The dimensions for the image are 200x100 pixels.
  • Text: The text that appears over the point of interest on the map.
