The regular Title field controls what the page’s title (or main heading for your page) is, how it is displayed in the breadcrumbs, and also how it is listed in the left and top menus (navigations) of your website. The Navigation Title field will allow you use different text for this page in your actual website menus than what shows in the content area as the page title.
To clarify, if you have a particularly long page title that you’ve entered in the Title field, but you’d like to shorten it for it’s text link in the menus, you can use the Navigation Title to assign this new value. There are other reasons you may want the menu text link to be different from the page title, but this is a common reason.
- Navigate to the page you want to edit and click on the Edit tab.
- In the Navigation Title field, enter the text you want used as its navigation and breadcrumbs text. For example, the page displayed below has "Consumer Information" as it's navigation title but "Standard 509 Consumer Information" as its actual page title. The first screenshot shows the page in edit mode. The second screenshot shows the live page and where the two different titles are used.
- Click Submit and let the page go through workflow.
- Ask for a republish due to a change that has affected every page in your site.
