For instructions on how to use Cascade, visit sandiego.edu/cascade.

To reach the Nursing home page in Cascade, go to http://cms.sandiego.edu, use your USDOne login name and password to log in, and then navigate to the soles site in the site selector.

Once there, click on the index page at the very bottom of the Explorer.

Editing the Home Page

Once selected, click the Edit button to begin editing the page.

Sections

The Nursing homepage is divided into five sections:

  • Hero

  • Intro

  • School Highlights

  • Academic Highlights

  • Call to Action

Most of these five sections are further divided into sub-sections.

There are two additional portions of the home page, the Nursing MyPostings area, and the Contact Footer. Both of those are controlled outside of the index page.

Hero

The Hero section contains “buttons.” These buttons are the links to the Nursing programs in the large “hero image” on the homepage.

There can be a minimum of one button, or a maximum of 5 buttons. Buttons, like all components in Cascade, are added and deleted just like “rows.”

Each of the buttons contains the following fields:

  • Name: Displays the button text.

  • URL - Internal: Use if linking to an internal link.

  • URL - External: Use if linking to an external link.

Intro

The Intro section is only two fields:

  • Lead: Type in the opening line for the paragraph that appears below in the Content field.

  • Content: Uses the Text Module. Type in whatever text you need to appear.

School Highlights

The School Highlights section is limited to three entries.

The Content options contain the following fields:

  • Title: Displays the text which appears on the very top of the section overlay. Use the <br/> tag to create a return break in the paragraph.

  • Text: Displays the text which appears inside of the background image. Use the tags <em> and </em> to enclose any text intended to appear in italics.

  • Button Text: This text only displays for screen readers. Text should be limited to two or three words. Examples include, "Learn more." or "Visit." Follow the directions for creating accessible image descriptions.

  • URL Type: Determines whether the URL is internal to Cascade or external.

  • Internal or External URL: This field depends on which option is select for URL Type. If Internal is selected, then this field will use the Cascade internal-navigation button to create an internal link. Otherwise, if External is selected, a field will appear so that you can copy and paste a URL from an external website.

  • Background Image: Displays the image used in the background. The image should be 2500x1500 pixels. To change any background image, submit a web request.

The Button options contain the following fields:

The quick links have two sub-sections, Main and Secondary. The Main section governs the three audiences (prospective, admitted and current students), and the Secondary section controls the four quick links for the Directory, FAQs, MySanDiego, and alumni.

Each of the items in the Main sub-section contain the following fields:

  • Title: Displays the text for each department over the image.

  • Text: Displays the text that appears when the image is hovered over.

  • Image: Used to link an image to the field. The help text states that the image must be 640x360 pixels.

  • Image Description (Alt text): Used for screen readers. Follow the directions for creating accessible image descriptions.

The Secondary sub-section contains Items with the following fields:

  • Text: Displays the button text.

Spotlight

The Spotlight section is comprised of three Items, but only one will randomly display on the page at a time for the user. Each item contains the following fields:

  • Quote: The quote which takes up the majority of the text area. Do not use actual quotation marks in this field.

  • Author: The name of the quote's author.

  • Color: Controls the color of the background overlay in front of the image, but behind the words. Options are teal, orange, and blue.

  • Background Image: Displays the image used in the background. The image should be 2500x1500 pixels. To change any background image, submit a web request.
