File Naming Conventions

In Cascade, every File Name becomes a URL (web address), so for SEO purposes, file names have a few restrictions.

  • No capital letters
  • Hyphens (and ONLY hyphens, no underscores) instead of spaces
  • No special characters (this includes apostrophes, ampersands, accent marks, etc.)
  • No punctuation, except for a period in a file suffix (e.g. .txt. .jpg, .png, .docx, etc.). This will only be found in document and image assets.

By default, when creating a new asset (which includes uploading a document or image into Cascade), the File Name field will have a default value that follows these conventions. Examples include the following:

  • new-folder
  • new-page
  • new-document
  • new-image
